Susan "Sue" Whitman

WHITMAN, Susan K., “Sue” age 73, of Vandalia passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 at Hospice of Dayton.  She was born June 6, 1949 in Anderson, Indiana, daughter of the late William E. and Wilma J. (Rupe) Griner.  Sue was a 1967 graduate of Pendleton High School in Indiana and has devoted her life to the Vandalia-Butler community through her service to the Vandalia-Butler City Schools.  Sue began as a substitute in food service in 1982, became a full time food service employee and started working with the Butler Athletic Department in 1983 and went on to become an educational aide in 1990. She has remained loyal to the staff, students and community members for just over 40 years. Sue had a love for all animals, especially her cats. She was devoted to her family; her daughter and granddaughter were the joys of her life.

Preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Richard, Sue is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Whitman of Vandalia; granddaughter, Jasmyn; brother, Bruce Griner (Jan); nieces, Emily Weaver (Larry),  Emily Wills (Tim), Michelle Welsh (Chris); nephews, Ben Griner (Karen), Joe Whitman (Tonya), Shawn Robertson and Mark Nicely along with her extended family and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services for Sue will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 11, at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating.   The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia on Thursday evening from 4-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vandalia-Butler Foundation Visions Endowment Fund or to SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center in Sue’s memory.
