Angelus Ruth Warner
Age 92, of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at The Hospice of Dayton. Ruth was born February 3, 1931 in Jellico, Tennessee to the late Lindsey & Ellen (Hudson) Lay. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Warner, in 2020; one grandson, Matthew Armstrong; and by two brothers, Lenwood Lay & Lenore Lay.
Ruth was a member of the Vandalia Baptist Temple for over 60 years. She loved to sew and used to make her own clothing.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Don Freels & his wife, Kimberly and Duane Freels; four grandchildren, Donnie Freels, Joey Freels, Duane Freels Jr. (Tracy) and Amanda Gersbacher (Christopher); fourteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Jeanetta Bridges; brother, James Lay (Iris); and by her extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm on Friday, May 26, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 pm with Pastor Rick Washburn officiating. Due to the Memorial Day Holiday cemetery schedule burial will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Ruth to either The Hospice of Dayton or St. Jude’s Hospital.
