Mary Gertrude Moorefield Goolsby

Huntsville - Mary Gertrude Moorefield Goolsby, 102, passed away November 25, 2019. Born June 15, 1917 in Delton, Virginia to Andrew Jackson Moorefield and Minnie Christina (Dawson) Moorefield.  Mrs. Goolsby was a member of the Clarksmill, VA Church of Christ. She moved to Dayton, OH in 1932, where she graduated from Wayne High School in 1935 and then worked at the General Motors Defense Electronics Company (DELCO) before and during World War II.  After the war, she married Horace in 1946 and raised three children.  Her life was dedicated to her extended family and her church, the Northridge Church of Christ until moving to Huntsville, AL in 2008. 

Since coming to Huntsville, she has been a member of the Mayfair Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, who appreciated her great cooking and sense of humor. The ways in which she instilled her love of God and family as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother have created a rich heritage spanning four generations.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Raymond Goolsby and son, David Andrew Goolsby, and by 13 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Goolsby Wilbeck and son-in-law, James Wilbeck of Huntsville, AL; her son, Raymond Calvin Goolsby and daughter-in-law, Carole of Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia, Ohio from 1:00 – 2:00 on Saturday, November 30, 2019. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio along with her husband and son.
