Mary Carter-Rice

CARTER-RICE, Mary A., age 88 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at her residence.  She was born May 3, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late James W. & Hettie Marie (Collinsworth) Irby.  Mary was a member of the Vandalia Baptist Temple and the Christian Women’s group.  She also enjoyed gardening and traveling. 

Preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, George H. Carter in 1987 and their infant daughter, Lori Jo Carter, and Mary's 2nd husband Carl Rice and sister, Martha Rodgers-Rothaug.  Mary is survived by children, Jerry & wife, Vicki Carter and LaDonna Arndts; her sister, Rowayne & husband, Billy Middletown; grandchildren, Stacie & husband, Dan Stevens, Ryan & wife, Nikki Carter and Bret & wife, Jennifer Carter; great-grandchildren, Zach, Jacob, Hannah, Emma, Olivia, Caleb, Ben, Jackson, Eli, Haley, Landen, Bella, Jon and Ben. 

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Vandalia Baptist Temple, 724 Helke Rd., Vandalia with Rev. Rick Washburn, and Pastors Mike and Becky Hancock officiating.  Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 noon until time of service.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s charity of choice in Mary’s memory.   Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
