Joseph “Bob” McCarthy

Died at the age of 92 on January 2, 2021. He is survived by his daughter, Diane, and son-in-law Gene Thomas. Also survived by his brother, Tom McCarthy; sisters, Doris Davis, Jean Hall, Carol Yocum and Bonnie Miller; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was very recently preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Viola McCarthy. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Cecile McCarthy; brothers, Patrick McCarthy and Jerry McCarthy; and sister, Judy Singhoff.

Bob worked at McCall’s for more than 30 years until the plant closed in 1982. He then worked for and retired from Galbreath Security at the Mead Tower in downtown Dayton. He was a lover of all things related to the fire service, even though he never served. Bob was a man of faith. He was a generous man, loved animals and had a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband and father.

The family will be receiving friends from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 East Second St., Dayton, Ohio 45402. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home (Vandalia) is in charge of arrangements.
