Joan Belle (Karns) Galloway

Joan “Jo” Belle Galloway (nee: Karns)

Age 94, of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Brookhaven Retirement Community where she has lived for the past eleven years. Jo was born June 19, 1929 in Dayton to the late Lorin & Lova (Klepinger) Karns.

Jo retired from the Dayton VA Hospital with over 15 years of service as a Registered Nurse. Prior to that she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital & Wright-Patterson AFB Hospital. She was a graduate of the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950 and a very proud graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School, class of 1947. She very much enjoyed BINGO, fishing at the pond, singing, visiting the casinos, playing “Lucky Ones” and long car rides. She will be remembered by many as the neighborhood nurse & family caretaker.

Jo is survived by three children, Tim Galloway, Tammy Galloway & her husband, Tony Mele and Pamela Anderson; two grandchildren, Sydney & Mackay Anderson; nieces & nephews, Larry (Linda) Karns, Connie (Taz) Moore, Karlton (Deb) Taylor & Kay Bosse; and by her extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Saturday, February 24, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brookhaven for the loving care they provided to Jo throughout her years there.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Jo to St. Jude’s Hospital or to The Hospice of Dayton.
