Irene “Mango” Simpson

Age 89, of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, at The Hospice of Dayton. Irene was born February 3, 1933 in Drift, Kentucky to the late Edward & Alice (Carol) Wright. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Earl Simpson, in 2005; and by several brothers & sisters.

Irene will be remembered by her family & friends as being a wonderful southern cook. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Murlin Heights.

Irene is survived by five children, Rick, Randy (Pam), Rodney (Angie), Rhonda (Jeff) and Ronald; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; and by four siblings, Betty, Eitel (Rex), Mussy and Bubby.

The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 6, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made to Mandy Simpson (in care of the funeral home) to help with the headstone expenses at the cemetery.
