Helen Snider Obituary

Helen Maxine Snider, 102, of Waynesville, Ohio passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 under the care of family and Hospice.  She was born on August 6, 1921 to the late Fred and Faye Davis in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she grew up.  After graduating from Ottumwa high school, Helen provided care to her nephews, worked as a telephone operator, and developed film at a photography studio.  On October 4, 1941 Helen married Carroll Lovell Snider in St. Louis, Missouri.  After World War II, the couple had a whirlwind of adventures throughout their life together before landing in Keosauqua, Iowa upon retirement.  Helen did not work outside the home but volunteered her time at the hospital breast center and blood bank.  She also was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.  Later in life, Helen and Carroll called Medway, Ohio home where they were close to family and attended Medway Christian Church.  After losing Carroll, Helen moved to Waynesville, Ohio to live with daughter Sherry and son-in-law Robert in 2015.

Throughout her life, Helen’s priorities were in being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  While her pastimes were Big Band music, dancing, cross-word puzzles, word jumbles, and games; her absolute favorite thing to do was visit on the phone with friends and family in Medway, Iowa, and other parts of the country.  Family and friends meant everything to Helen, and spending time making these connections brought her the greatest joy.

Helen is survived by: daughter Sherry Finch (Robert); grandchildren Kristin Finch (Dan Ebert), Jennifer Pierce (Chris), and Michael Finch (Jennifer); great-granddaughters Megan, Madelyn, and Meredith Finch (whom all called her “Gram”); special nephews Stephen, David, and Alan Park; special friends, Cheryl Smith (who called her “mom”), Inge Pierce, and Mariann Savard (with whom she had a special bond).

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Snider (love of her life), sister Evelyn Park, brother Buddy Davis, and other aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
