Dorothy Mae Caes

Age 92, of Butler Twp., passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 14, 2022. Dorothy was born September 24, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Ralph & Ruth (Bent) Hoover.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty “Madge” Hobson; brother, Herbert Hoover; and by one granddaughter, Emma Caes.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of the past 72 years, Rev. Everett Caes. Although she did not serve in the military, she is a veteran of having raised five sons, Mark & his wife, Christine, Tim & his wife, Cindy, James & his wife, Rhonda, Kevin and Matt & his wife, Analise. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, David, Anna, Andrew (Sydney), Caitlin, Catherine, Hannah, Isabel, Meielena; one great granddaughter, Mya; and by her beloved dog, Odie and her cherished cat, Garfield.

Dorothy’s greatest desire was to have Christ exalted and known by all. She faithfully read her Bible every day and memorized many passages. She now is with her Savior whom she longed to see. 2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Dorothy was a longtime member of the Vandalia Grace Brethren Church. She faithfully served her Savior alongside her husband of 72 years. This included serving as a Sunday School teacher for grade school, junior high, and adult classes. Along with her teaching duties, she served on the church board as recording secretary and was the church secretary at various times. She also loved her time with the WMC ladies group.

The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, on Monday, November 21, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm.  If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Dorothy's honor.
