David Brian Smith

David Brian Smith

Age 70, passed away on May 20, 2023.  He was born on January 15, 1953 in Mishawaka, IN and is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy H. (Gooley) Smith and father Dale B. Smith as well as a brother, Mark Smith. 

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda K. (Hutchins) Smith and three children:  Nicole Smith, Marcus Smith (Michelle Smith), and Erica Fields, as well as three grandchildren:  Ireland Fields and Connor Smith and Christian Smith.  He also leaves behind sisters Diane Morris (Matt Morris) and Denise Walters (Michael Walters), five nieces and nephews, and four great-nieces and -nephews. 

He enjoyed a more than forty-year career as the General Manager of hotels in South Bend, IN, Kalamazoo, MI, Lexington, KY and in the Dayton, OH metro area.  He also enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 24, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am, on Thursday, May 25, at St. Christopher Church, 435 East National Road, Vandalia. The family will also be receiving friends at the church from 10:30 am until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made in memory of David to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
