William O'Connell

OCONNELL, William R. age 80 of Vandalia, passed away Saturday November 17, 2007 at Harborside of Troy following an illness. William was a U.S. Army and Air Force Veteran and was a retired employee of General Motors. He was preceded in death by one sister Kathleen and 2 brothers Walter and Robert. William is survived by his wife of 56 years, Opal OConnell; one son Tim & wife Rebecca OConnell of Pleasant Hill; one daughter Kathy Baughman of Vandalia; 4 grandchildren Ryan OConnell, Kelly Baughman, Erin Melnick, and Andy Baughman; one great-granddaughter Morgan and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 21 at 10:30am at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. or to the Alzheimers Assoc. in Williams memory. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Harborside for their loving care of William during his illness.
