Vessie L. Saylor

SAYLOR, Vessie L., age 91 passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at her residence while under the compassionate care of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. She was born January 25, 1935, in Clyde, North Carolina, daughter of the late Robert and Ava Lee (Dawson) Jones. Vessie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Wm. David Saylor; and several siblings, Faye Sockwell, Nellie Newman, Alma Jones, Francis Price, Bobby Jones, Pearle Hicks and special aunt Hazel Newman

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Nelson (Tim) and Alva Wright (David); 7 grandchildren, David Nelson (Lisa), Timothy Nelson (Kristen), Matthew Nelson, Sarah Droulias (Josh), Tristan Wright, Evan Wright and Kelsey Tiley (Austin); 6 great-grandchildren, Shawn, Ella, Drew, Lucy, Jake & Caroline; her sister, Gladys Robinson (Ronnie); along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Vessie was a founding member of the Christian Life Center and spent nearly 50 years serving the church in a variety of ways. She was proud to serve the Christian Life Center School as a kindergarten teacher. She was an avid quilter and flower gardener.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia with Pastor Norm Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Brookville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Life Center or to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton in Vessie’s memory.
