Timoteo Macapanas
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Timoteo Hamlan Macapanas, our loving family and friend. He passed away while sleeping peacefully at his home in Dayton, Ohio on August 14, 2026. He was 89 years old. He was born January 24, 1937, in Misamis Oriental, Philippines, a son of the late Feliciano and Aurora Macapanas. He was the oldest of 12 siblings. He was married to Rita Macapanas on January 7, 1957.
Timoteo will be remembered for his strong love for Jehovah as a Jehovah's Witness and his love of preaching the Good News. He was baptized on January 12, 1978. He enjoyed having Bible discussions and would ask you to turn to a scripture and read it to him. Despite his circumstances, he would preach to his doctors and nurses. He enjoyed singing karaoke with his family and friends, watching western movies and drinking hot chocolate or tea with crackers. He loved to sing!
His daughter, Genalyn King, shares these memories: “One memory that will always stay with me is waking up in the morning to Papa cheerfully singing Kingdom melodies. If he couldn’t pronounce the words, he would simply hum the tune. And Papa never knew how to whisper or lower his voice—he sang loudly enough for everyone to hear! We would just laugh, but now that is one of the things I will miss the most.
Papa was very adventurous. Even when he was young, he traveled to many different cities, and he was especially proud of one particular town because that was where he found the truth. It was also where he began raising his seven children and grandchildren and great grandchildren teaching them to love Jehovah. His adventurous spirit eventually brought him here to the United States in his later years, and he loved living here.
We will always remember Papa for his wonderful sense of humor. Sometimes his jokes weren’t really jokes, but we would laugh anyway because he was already laughing before he even finished telling them!”
His love for his family was undeniable. He always talked about everyone, including our family in the Philippines. I don’t know how many times he counted all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but he was so proud of every one of them.
Timoteo was preceded in death by his father Feliciano Macapanas, his mother Aurora Macapanas, his brothers Salvador, Winifredo and Cornelio, his sisters Elsie, Virgie and Dinya, his son-in-law Charles Subiera and his two sons Rene and Medel Macapanas.
Timoteo is survived by his wife Rita Macapanas, his children Noel (Helen) Macapanas, Myrna Subiera, Mila Macapanas, Wilma (Ricky) Bustamante, Genalyn (Timojin) King, Eva (Kirk) Salvania and his daughter-in-law Felicia Tolentino. He is also survived by his brothers Welito and Lorenzo Roger and his sisters Marites, Milka and Melita. He leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, each holding a special place in his heart. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Genalyn King; son-in-law, TJ King; grandson, Timothy King; granddaughter, Tamis Amor Maniago; and grandson-in-law, Jason Maniago, who served as his caregivers during his final years, providing him with comfort, companionship, and love.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for all the love and support during this difficult time. They are incredibly grateful for all the prayers, phone calls, visits and gifts. They will always remember your kindness.
The family would like to invite their family and friends for a funeral discourse at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 8986 Dog Leg. Rd. Dayton OH, 45414 on August 22, 2026 at 2PM. For ones attending via Zoom in the Philippines, it would be August 23, 2026 at 2AM.
