Steve A. Kirk

January 28, 1954 — May 6, 2025

Dayton

It is with profound sadness that the family of Steve A. Kirk announces his passing on May 6th, 2025 in Dayton, Ohio. Steve was born on January 28, 1954, in Charleston, West Virginia where he grew up in the Seventh-day Adventist faith. As a young man, he was very active in the church where he sang in the choir, a quartet, and played trumpet. He was an avid athlete in his youth, excelling in basketball, baseball, and gymnastics.

Steve learned carpentry from his father as a young boy, and after serving in the army, where he was stationed in Korea, he went on to lead his own custom framing business. He built hundreds of homes over the course of his career, many with his son Brian, and even a few with his daughter.

Throughout his life, he had many interests and always pursued them with unmatched enthusiasm. He shared a passion for deer hunting and golf with his son Brian and always looked forward to his anniversary trip to the Smokies with his wife Susan.

He loved the outdoors, spending time gardening and caring for his fruit trees, mushroom hunting, fishing, and many other pursuits that led him outside.

Once he found a passion, he quickly became an expert. He knew just about everything about a lot of things and could spend hours telling you all about. In life he was a no-nonsense kind of guy, yet he had a soft side and loved his family tremendously. He will be especially missed by his wife, children, and granddaughters who all loved him dearly.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Fralick of Asheville, NC; his wife, Susan Kirk; his son, Brian Kirk (Erin Hladiak); his daughter, Mary Anne Kirk; and his granddaughters, Nora and Annalise and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Lynn Kirk; his father, Fred Tennyson Kirk; and his brothers, Kenneth and Benny.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
