Age 96 of Dayton, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026. Shirlee was born May 2, 1929 in Lima, Ohio to the late Irwin Lee & Mary Catherine (Baxter) Britt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Charles A. Murray, Jr. in 1998; and her son-in-law, Bud Thaler.

Shirlee was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vandalia. She had been employed by Vandalia Medical Center as a receptionist, volunteered at Maimi Valley Hospital for over 20 years and she worked as a receptionist at Garbo Hair Designs.

Shirlee is survived by two daughters, Cathalee Robertson & her husband, Billy and Kimberlee Thaler; four grandchildren, Krista (Mike), Jason (Jenelle), Aaron (Lindsey) and Andrew (Austen); eight great grandchildren, Kayla (Juan), Aliya, Charlie, Zachary, Colton, Bennett, Sophia and Owen; and one great great granddaughter, Ruthie Mae.

The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday, February 6, at Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm with Pastor Benjamin Prill officiating. Shirlee will be laid to rest with her husband at Dayton National Cemetery.
