Ralph E. Cabay

Age 75, of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 10, 2026. Ralph was born January 26, 1951 in Dayton to the late Jakob & Lucy (Vorhees) Cabay. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Dugan and Kathleen Cabral; two brothers, Freddy Cabay and Gaza Cabaj; sister-in-law, Helen Cabaj; and by one nephew, Donny Donahue.

Ralph loved tinkering on small engines, traveling, mowing his neighbors’ lawns and enjoyed spending time with his nieces & nephews whom he adopted as his own. Some of his favorite hobbies included listening to music and watching movies. Ralph was able to entertain his family and friends with the many funny stories that he had accumulated while working as a trash collector. He will be remembered as being “different,” but different in a way that would bring a smile to your face and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Ralph is survived by one brother & sister-in-law, Jake and Annette Cabay; many nieces and nephews; dear friends, Joe and Gloria Smiddy; and by his extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia. Funeral services with an opportunity for family and friends to share memories and stories will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
