Norma Jean Shields

passed away at the age of 93, on August 26, 2025. She was born on February 25, 1932 in Covington, Kentucky and has been a resident of Vandalia Ohio for over 70 years.

She was predeceased by her parents John Vaughan and Florence Jarvis, sister Alberta Brautigan, brother Bobby Vaughan, grandson Jesse Shields, and her sons-in law Royce Kelley Sr. and Lee Doran.

Norma is survived by Jimmie, the love of her life and husband of 79 years; children Brenda Doran, Beverly Kelley and Barry Shields; grandchildren Alicia Mullins, Dawna Johnson, Daniel Kellis (Angie), Deanna Kellis, Jon Koppin, and Bret Koppin (Massiel). She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren & 16 great great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Norma was a born homemaker and loved caring for her family in every way. She had a quiet strength, rarely complained and always sacrificed her needs for the good of the family. She was a great cook, a marvelous seamstress and loved gardening both flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, camping, boating, cross country motorcycle trips, and devoted many years to accurately documenting her family geneology back to the 1500’s. During this time she also worked in sales for 20 years at Elder-Beerman, helped care for grandchildren and opened a commercial lighting supply business with her husband to better prepare for their retirement years. She had a full and busy life but always found time to enjoy friends and family gatherings. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Visitation in celebration of Norma’s life will take place on Friday September 5th 2025 at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home (139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, OH 45377) starting at 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 PM.
