Merva J. Callicoat

Age 86, of Vandalia, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Randall Residence in Tipp City. Merva was born April 27, 1939 in Roscoe, Illinois to the late Mervin & Katherine (Smith) Selover. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Perry Callicoat, in 2024; and by two sisters, Wilma Walker and Sandy Stevens.

Merva enjoyed gardening, crocheting, going to the casinos, taking care of her grandchildren and her pets.

Merva is survived by two children, Jim Callicoat & his wife, Sheila and Shelley Penewit & her husband, Dale; eight grandchildren, Joel (Olivia), Micah (Angela), Kyli (Chris), Gabe, Tracy (Micah), Dean, Sam (Dana) and Matthew; ten great grandchildren; and by her extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, at Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. Interment will be at Polk Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Merva to The Hospice of Dayton.
