Melissa Ann Oostveen, affectionately known to many as "Missy" or "Nani," passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at her home in Union, Ohio. Born on July 27, 1959, in Dearborn, Michigan, Melissa dedicated her life to service, embodying a spirit of compassion and care that touched all who knew her.

Throughout her distinguished career, Melissa worked most recently for the Emergency Department at Grandview Hospital and served with the Pleasant Hill Fire Department, striving daily to provide comfort and aid to those in urgent need. Her commitment to public safety was further demonstrated through her previous work with both the Vandalia and Tipp City Fire Departments, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and community alike. Beyond her professional endeavors, Melissa volunteered with Canines 4 Christ, reflecting her enduring dedication to helping others through her therapy dogs, Boomer and Roxie. Melissa’s warmth extended deeply into her personal life, where her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. 

She was a devoted grandmother to Reid, Shep, Kiryn, Abigail, Charlotte, Eli, Wyatt, and Shelby, finding endless joy in nurturing their lives. Her favorite moments included gardening, feeding her birds, and cooking for her entire family. Melissa’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her daughters Leslie Hulett (Jon), Parrish Brazel, and Ashley Oostveen, as well as her brothers Mike Mumper (Peggy) and Matt Mumper (Pam). She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family in Michigan. Her parents, Jerry and Penni Mumper, preceded her in death.

A visitation to honor Melissa’s life will be held on March 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 139 S. Dixie Dr, Vandalia, Ohio. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 5:00 PM at the same location. 

Melissa Ann Oostveen’s legacy is one of heartfelt service, endless love, and quiet strength. She lived her life with a profound sense of purpose and generosity, touching countless lives with her presence. Those who had the privilege to know her will carry her memory with deep respect and affection.
