Maynard Lee Powers

Maynard Lee Powers, 90, of Jamestown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2026, at The Sanctuary in Dayton, Ohio, where he had lived for the past eight months. Everyone at The Sanctuary knew him affectionately as “Uncle Maynard” and loved listening to his stories.

Maynard was born on January 3, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Ross (Woods) and Carter Powers; his sisters, Naomi Newman, Edna May, Goldie Stapleton, Wilma Hoskins, Mary Maynard, and Georgia Kelly; his brothers, Jerry Powers and Richard Powers; and his girlfriend, Jewel Stone.

He is survived by his two sisters, Brenda Nuckles and Shelby Granger, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

Maynard was a fan of bluegrass and old-time country music. He traveled extensively in his youth and enjoyed sharing his stories and memories with those around him. He spent the last several years in Ohio with his beloved girlfriend Jewel, whom he loved very much.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to all of Maynard’s nieces and nephews who helped care for him over the last several years. He had a particularly special bond with his great-niece, Mindy League, who helped care for him at The Sanctuary. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to Mindy’s mother, Sonia Buffenbarger, who visited Maynard almost every day, checking on him, bringing him food, and even bringing things for his bird feeders. Their love and kindness meant so much to him and to the entire family.

The family will receive friends and family from 12:00–1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, Ohio, with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. The burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City, Ohio. Condolences can be shared at www.MortonWhetstoneFH.com
