Marie Margaret Schmidt (nee: Mescher)

Age 102, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Miami County Hospice Unit. Marie was born September 7, 1922 in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late William Henry & Anna C. (Overman) Mescher. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leo Schmidt; and by eleven brothers & sisters.

Marie was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church for over 60 years and was active with the Bereavement Committee. She was a talented bowler and was a member of a bowling league at Crossroads Bowling Alley and had worked at International Envelope for many years and also worked at Franklin Nursing Home as a Nurse’s Aide. She also served as a Boy Scout Den Mother.

Marie is survived by seven children, Robert (Marge) Schmidt, Virgil Schmidt, Patricia Schmidt, Ronald Schmidt, Michael (Cheral) Schmidt, Susan Schmidt & Barbara (John) Ross; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and by her extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday (5/27) at Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia, by Rev. Kyle Schnippel. The family will also be receiving visitors one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Tipp City.

If friends desire, contributions may be made in memory of Marie to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County or the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
