MURPHY, Margaret Mable, age 87, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 in LaFollette, TN. She was born September 1, 1937 in Ivel, Kentucky to Willard & Tavia (Crum) Dillon. Margaret retired from Dayton Children’s Medical Center after 20 years of faithful service and was a former member of the Vandalia Christian Tabernacle. “Mama Mable” as she was known to many was filled with love for others. Her heart belonged to her children and grandchildren, and she never knew a stranger. She enjoyed crafting, gardening and cooking. Her homemade fudge, pumpkin cookies, and green beans were family favorites and along with pouring love into her meals, she always made sure to include her “not so secret ingredient” – SALT!
“Mama Mable” was spunky and often had no filter, but she had an enormous heart. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her right back. She treasured her time spent “porch-sitting” and just being with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Billy; children, Teresa and Cammie; brother, Lloyd Dillon; sister, Gloria Miller; foster daughters, Marsha & Rhonda; 2 aunts, Juanita Dillon and Lillian Alcox, Margaret is survived by daughters, Drema Spiller (Tim Arwood), and Lourdes Daniel (Charlie); son, David Murphy (Verna), Kevin Williams (Beverly), Ronald Williams (Betty), and Michael Murphy; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 15 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am until time of service.
