Karl Micheal “Mike” Kimbrel

Age 71, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born in Baxley, Georgia, to Emmitt and Clarise Kimbrel, Mike was raised in Leesburg, Florida, where he developed a strong sense of duty and compassion that would shape the course of his life.

Following his graduation from high school, Mike proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His deep pride in being a veteran remained a defining aspect of his identity throughout his life.

After completing his military service, Mike dedicated himself to protecting and serving others through a career in law enforcement. He served as a police officer in several departments before retiring from the Vandalia Police Department in Vandalia, Ohio. Among his most cherished roles was that of “Officer Mike” the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer, where he worked closely with local schools and youth. His ability to connect with students and his unwavering commitment to guiding and mentoring young people left a lasting impact on the community he loved.

Mike was known for his warm presence, generous spirit, and remarkable ability to engage with others—qualities that earned him a beloved reputation among friends, colleagues, and strangers alike. It was often said that “he never met a stranger,” a testament to his kindness and gift for meaningful conversation. In his free time, Mike found great joy in fishing—a peaceful pastime that reflected his love for the serenity nature brought him and his deep appreciation for the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Clarise Kimbrel, and his sister, Elaine Kimbrel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Seskevics; his daughter, Shannon (Ben) Estes; his stepson, Matthew Seskevics; his cherished grandchildren, Charlotte Estes and Finan Seskevics, and his brother Sam (Robin) Kimbrel, and multiple loving cousins (the Dixons and Aarons).

In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held for close family members. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Mike’s memory are kindly encouraged to make a donation to His Hands Extended Sanctuary, an animal shelter in St. Paris, Ohio that held special significance to him. The family deeply appreciates your prayers and warm remembrances, and invites all who knew Mike to celebrate his life by reflecting on the joy and laughter he so generously shared with others.
