GENTRY, Jon E., age 67 of Vandalia, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his residence. Jon was born January 2, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Kenneth and Virginia (Eckley) Gentry. Jon was employed with the Vandalia-Butler City School District as a bus driver for over 20 years, served his country as a U.S. Marine and was an avid auto and drag racing fan. He was a longtime announcer at Kil-Kare and Edgewater tracks. Jon loved cooking and treasured his time with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth, Jon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda; 2 daughters, Alexis Morgan (Matthew) and Chelsea Sederstrand (David); 2 grandchildren, Avery and Brady; brother, Kenneth Gentry (Alura); sister-in-law, Barbara Watson; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, March 7 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia from 4-7 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 8 at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia with Pastor Rob Gerdes officiating.
