John Phillip Stanley

October 3, 1952 — March 1, 2026

John Phillip Stanley, 73, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, Mar. 1, 2026. He fought a long hard battle with Parkinson’s. He fought with dignity but now he is celebrating with our heavenly Father. He was a retired teacher from Northmont Schools. He also was a self-taught musician and formed the band Cotton and was lead singer for over 40 years. Music was his passion and the band even cut their own record. One of the highlights of his music career was playing backup for Jimmy Buffet. He loved traveling all over the country in his motorhome with his wife and their labradors. His true love was his family. He treasured his 2 granddaughters. His love of golf and fishing also surrounded him with so many wonderful friends. He loved the Lord with all his being and his wish was that all the lost would share his faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cody and Marge Stanley, of Springfield, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Wolf Stanley; son, Dustin Stanley (Jessie); granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte; his dog Chesney and numerous cousins and friends. The family wants to thank all the staff at Day City Hospice for all the wonderful care that he received. Memorial donations can be made to either: Lifewise of Vandalia (www.LifeWise.org/vandalia-butleroh) or Day City Hospice.

The family will receive friends starting at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 7, 2026 at the First Light Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia, OH 45377, with the memorial service at 12 Noon. Arrangements entrusted to the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
