HAPNER, John A., Jr., 87, of Vandalia, formerly of Tipp City, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. He was born to John, Sr. & Geneva Hapner on March 30, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. John was a graduate of Northridge High School and volunteered for the Harrison Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Tipp City Jaycees and served as president of the Tipp City Mum Festival. John had also volunteered as a deputy sheriff in Miami County.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Ann (Peterson) Hapner, and his brother, Robert E. Hapner.
Survived by his sons, Daniel J. Hapner (Margie) & Thomas R. Hapner (Melissa); daughters, Susan L. Hapner, Peggy M. Hapner & Barbara A. Hapner; sister, Marilyn Kay Hapner; grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Matthew Hapner, Sarah Griffin, Nicholas Hapner & Lauren Hapner; great grandchildren, Kendall Hapner, Lincoln Hapner, Jasper Tobias & Grayson Leopold; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Mar. 3, 2023 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, with Pastor Michael Malcosky, officiating. The burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
