Janet L. Brusman (Prugh)
September 22, 1937 – August 23, 2026
Janet Louise Brusman of Vandalia, Ohio passed away at her home on Sunday August 23, 2026 at the age of 88.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Janet graduated from Vandalia Butler High School in 1955 where she was a member of the original Butler Kickline and also 1954 Homecoming Queen. She married her high school sweetheart, H. David Brusman Sr., in 1956 and this past Christmas Eve celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Janet worked in the family businesses, Vandalia Cafeteria and Julia’s Bakery, as well as stay home mom to raise her four pride and joy children; in her spare time, she was an aerobics instructor. Janet also enjoyed trapshooting, camping, hunting, hiking, backpacking, shooting her Glock, running in 5K races, disco dancing, and anything she and her soulmate David could do together. Always dressed impeccably, Janet had many friends and enjoyed organizing birthday luncheons.
Janet loved her family and spending time with them. She was preceded in death by her husband David; her parents Lela and Virgil Prugh; her brother Jack Prugh; her sister Jean Hatfield and brother-in-law Rick Hatfield; and also, brother-in-law’s Bill Brusman and Ron Gearhart. Janet is survived by her sister-in-law’s Betty Prugh, Carolyn Brusman and Julia Gearhart; her son H. David (Julie) Brusman Jr., her daughters Susan (Ron) Hartke, Lynn (Bob) Summer, and Jill (Ben) Peterson; her grandchildren Jeremy (Kelly) Hartke, Julia (Brad) Winterhalter, Jameson (Stephanie) Hartke, Sarah (Dan) King, David Brusman, Rachel (Ramiz) Hakim, Christian Brusman, Robert (Nelle) Summer, Amanda (Kyle) Piatt, Janet (Josh) Ost, Kelie (Zak) Lewis, and Kurt Peterson; and her great-grandchildren Hudson, Ashton, and Avalee Hartke, Willa and Winston Winterhalter, Kaitlyn, James, and Chris King, Isaiah, Jasper, and Azmi Hakim, Charlie, Everytt, and Truett Summer, Rowan and Rhett Piatt, Hayden, Morgan, Raelynn, Brooks, and Gunner Ost, and Baker Lewis.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 29, at Morton & Whetstone funeral home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Mark Plummer officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery.
