Janet L. Abney (nee: Saylor)

Age 71, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Janet was born August 11, 1953 in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Homer & Mary Lucille (Burke) Saylor. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Robert David Abney, in 1988.

For many years Janet was a waitress at the former Christy's Alpine Inn in Vandalia; she loved to play Euchre and Bingo and solving puzzle books. She especially enjoyed Hallmark Christmas Movies. She will be remembered as a woman of faith.

Janet is survived by two children, Matthew Ogden & his wife, Karen and Carla Gilmore & her girlfriend, Lindsay Johnston; two grandchildren, Matthew Blake Ogden & his wife, Lyndsey and Cooper David Gilmore; three siblings, Brenda Ward, Homer Duane Saylor & his wife, Mary and Lilly Annette Saylor; her good friend since high school, Cheryl Burch; and by her extended family & many good friends.

The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Friday, May 9, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Janet to the American Heart Association.
