Harold David Brusman, Sr.

February 1, 1936 – January 13, 2026

Harold David Brusman Sr. of Vandalia, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday January 13, 2026 at the age of 89.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, David graduated from Vandalia Butler High School in 1954 and then from Wittenberg University. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Louise Prugh, in 1956 and this past Christmas Eve celebrated 69 years of marriage.

David along with his brother Bill Brusman and sister Julia Gearhart own and operate numerous businesses in Vandalia including the Vandalia Shopping Center currently and Frisch’s Big Boy and Julia’s Bakery in the past. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hunting, and was an avid trapshooter, selected numerous years to the ATA All-American Trapshooting Team and also inducted into the Ohio Trapshooting Hall of Fame.

David loved his family and spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Wilhelmina Brusman. David is survived by his loving wife Janet; his brother Bill (Carolyn) Brusman, his sister Julia Gearhart; his son H. David (Julie) Brusman Jr., his daughters Susan (Ron) Hartke, Lynn (Bob) Summer, and Jill (Ben) Peterson; his grandchildren Jeremy (Kelly) Hartke, Julia (Brad) Winterhalter, Jameson (Stephanie) Hartke, Sarah (Dan) King, David Brusman, Rachel (Ramiz) Hakim, Christian Brusman, Robert (Nelle) Summer, Amanda (Kyle) Piatt, Janet (Josh) Ost, Kelie (Zak) Lewis, and Kurt Peterson; and his great-grandchildren Hudson, Ashton, and Avalee Hartke, Willa and Winston Winterhalter, Kaitlyn, James, and Chris King, Isaiah, Jasper, and Azmi Hakim, Charlie, Everytt, and Truett Summer, Rowan Piatt, Hayden, Morgan, Raelynn, Brooks, and Gunner Ost, and Baker Lewis.
