Gene Brooks

BROOKS, Gene E. age 85 of Centerville passed away Sunday June 28, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital following an illness. He was born in Willard, OH son of the late Thomas & Adeline (Swartz) Brooks. Gene was a retired Yardmaster from Conrail Railroad and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Greenmont Community Church; was a life member of VFW Post# 9927, and formerly attended American Legion Post# 598. Gene was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Janis Brooks, 2 brothers Bill and Carlton Brooks, one sister Guyneth Shedd, grandson Michael, and granddaughter Michelle. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Angeline Brooks; one son Walter Brooks of Stoutsville, OH; one daughter Diane Brooks of Dayton; one brother Frederick (Jackie) Brooks of Vandalia; 2 grandchildren Matt and Monica; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Alvina Brooks; step-children Pat (Jim), Steve (Claudia), Kathy, Kenny (Julie); 6 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 2 at 3:00pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:30pm until time of service. If so desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Genes memory.
