Gail Carmack
Age 95, of Vandalia, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026. She was born October 10, 1930 in Ewing, Virginia to the late Luther H. & Bertie L. (Cole) Dean. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William “Bill” Carmack; and by her son-in-law, Barry L. Burris.
Gail has been a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia (now First Light Church) since 1965. She retired from First Light as the financial secretary, and she was active in the Classics Senior Adults. Some of her interests and hobbies include genealogy, painting, sewing, quilting, gardening and she was an avid reader. Gail was also a talented teacher, having taught her daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren how to paint.
Gail is survived by two daughters, Nancy Dooley & her husband, Ron and Linda Burris; four grandchildren, Steven Dooley (Sarah), Jennifer Jones (Steve), Sarah Oliver (John) & Rebekah Parker (Shane); nine great grandchildren, Nora, Lydia, Claire, Cale, Charlotte, Emily, Kinleigh, Carson, Olivia; one brother, Bruce Dean; and by her extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday, March 13, at First Light Church, 140 Elva Court, Vandalia. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm with John Seagraves officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. Morton & Whetstone funeral home is in charge of arrangement.
