Eugene A. Kunk, 83, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026.
He was born on September 7, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, to Albert and Viola (Stylski) Kunk. He was a 1960 graduate of Patterson Co-Op and served his community as a firefighter with the City of Dayton until his retirement.
Gene was an avid car enthusiast and a regular at local car shows. He spent his summers boating at Indian Lake and Cumberland and his winters snowmobiling in Michigan. He was a lifelong fitness devotee and was proud to share his daily sit-up count…even in his 80s.
He is survived by June Baumgardner; daughter, Deb (Bart) Hanselman; stepdaughter, Kimberly (Todd) Long; grandchildren, Matt (Claire), Jake, and Rachel Hanselman, Ashlyn, Makenna, and Isaiah Long; great-grandchildren, Violet, Ruby, and Cypress Hanselman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Pat Kunk, and his son, Butch Kunk.
Gene chose to make the ultimate gift to medical science. While we will not gather for a formal visitation, the family invites you to pause, remember, and celebrate his life in your own special way. A private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery will be held at a later date.
If you wish to make a donation in Gene’s memory, please consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
