Edward “Ed” J. Shoemaker

Edward J. Shoemaker was born to Donald and Marianne Shoemaker on March 14th, 1961 and departed this earth on December 10th, 2024. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 41 years, Lori (Case), mother Marianne, and siblings Ken (Belinda) and Linda (Kevin) Ricci, his Aunt Pat and cousin Jen Moylan, Aunts Pat Ruble, Kay Chet, mother-in law Janet Case, brother-in-law Chris Case (Connie), and numerous cousins. A devoted, and caring father and grandfather, his legacy lives through his sons Cory (Kristen) of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and Andrew (Katie) of Dayton, Ohio, and his grandchildren Claire, Jillian, Ivy, and Oliver.

Ed was a graduate of Vandalia-Butler High school and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout before graduating from the University of Dayton in 1983 with a degree in chemical engineering. His keen intellect and work ethic earned him a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Throughout his career he solved problems and made the workspace better. He had a lifetime passion for refereeing soccer and lacrosse, making innumerable friends, and obtaining the rank of national soccer referee in 2004. During the summer, he enjoyed long bicycle rides throughout the region; in the winter he loved nothing better than cheering on his Dayton Flyer as a long-time basketball ticket holder. Always ready to discuss craft brewing over a pint of home brew, he most cherished time spent with family and friends. His love was felt by all, and he leaves the world a better place than he found it.

Memorial services will be held at Ohmer Park United Methodist Church, 1357 Arbor Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420 on Thursday, December 19th at 6 PM. Pastor Steven Feverston, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Rails to Trails Conservancy.
