In loving memory of Dean Allen Crabtree
Dean Allen Crabtree (Crab), age 70, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, October 16, 2026, due to natural causes. Dean was born on April 16th, 1956, to the late Kenneth Ralph Crabtree and Naomi Agnes Crabtree. He grew up in Northridge, Ohio, where he attended school and developed a lifelong passion for basketball, playing on his high school team.
In 1974, Dean went on his first date with the love of his life, Shirley, for an unforgettable outing to see Aerosmith. The two were married shortly after in 1975, beginning a journey of over 51 years together. They bought their first home in Dayton, Ohio, in 1978, welcoming their first child, Jason, in 1979. They later welcomed their son Christopher in May 1985, and established their family home in Vandalia in 1987.
Dean pursued his trade education at Rets Tech HVAC technical school before joining his father at Crabtree and Son Heating and Air Conditioning, which was founded in 1977. Dean officially took over ownership in 1982, later establishing Crabtree Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. He operated and grew the family business for decades with an unwavering commitment to quality, honesty, and integrity. Through his strong work ethic and fair treatment of everyone he served, Dean built a successful business and earned a lasting reputation of trust throughout the community.
Outside of work, Dean was always active. He had a deep love for music, enjoyed taking trips to Florida, and was happiest when staying busy around the house tackling new projects. He also cherished his lifelong friendships, continuing to play basketball with his high school group into his mid and late-40s and later gathering with the same group of friends to play cornhole.
Above all his accomplishments and hobbies, Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose family was his greatest pride. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 51 years, Shirley J. Crabtree; his sons Jason Dean Crabtree and Christopher Allen Crabtree; his cherished grand-son, Corey Lee Crabtree; his sister Rita J. (Crabtree) Deaton; his niece Leah Peoples; and great nephews Kason and Hunter Peoples.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026, at 7:30 PM EST at Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, located at 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, OH 45377. Family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until the time of the service.
