Dan Crivelin Schlagetter 

Passed away on May 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and passion for the communities he touched. Born to Howard "Crib" and Mary Schlagetter in March of 1937 in Sidney, OH, he carried forward the values of dedication and generosity that they instilled in him.

He was a devoted father to Heath Schlagetter and cherished his daughter-in-law, Jacqui Schlagetter. His grandsons, Dayne and Brodie Schlagetter, brought him immense joy, and he loved nothing more than watching them compete in sports. Fiona Grace, his beloved dog, was always by his side, and he had a deep love for Collies, dedicating himself to rescuing and providing them with the care they deserved.

Dan is survived by his loving sisters, Sharon McGreevey and her husband, Dick, as well as Carol Balser and her husband, David, who shared in his life's journey and cherished his presence.

Dan proudly served his country as a veteran and carried that dedication into every aspect of his life. He ran track at The Ohio State University, where his athleticism and perseverance shone. A champion canoer, he not only excelled in the sport but also dedicated himself to its community as president of the United States Canoe Association.

Beyond his sporting achievements, Dan was a pillar in the Vandalia-Butler schools and sports programs, offering his time and support to enrich the lives of students and athletes. He was a lifelong member of the Elks and Amvets lodges, where he selflessly contributed his time and energy to support organizations and causes close to his heart. He also cherished his time as a member of the Dayton Agonis Club, where he found joy in camaraderie and shared his passion for sports and leadership.

Dan’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication—to his family, his passions, and his community. His impact will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, July 19, at the AMVETS Post # 99, 1123 S. Brown School Road, Vandalia.
