Clarence L. "Flick" Schmidt

SCHMIDT, Clarence L., “Flick” of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Hearth and Home of Vandalia. Flick was born February 2, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Lester M. and Helen (Baker) Schmidt. In addition to his parents, Flick was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Betty (Sherrill) Schmidt, sister, Marty Strickland, grandchildren, Chris Krauth, Derrick Bowermeister and Hunter Leonard.

Flick enjoyed his children’s activities, college basketball and loved visiting lighthouses and covered bridges with his kids. He was a 1946 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School, where he was a member of the track team.

Flick is survived by his children, Jean (Bob), Cathy (Dave), Jim (Lynn), John (Karen), grandchildren, Doug, Lauren (Johnny), Meghan, Thomas, David, Justin (Gretchen), Lindsey (Allen); numerous great & great-great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from noon to 1:30 PM. Graveside services will be held following the visitation at 2:00 pm at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 8200 W. National Rd., New Carlisle, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vandalia-Butler Athletic Boosters in Flick’s memory.
