Charles "Happy" Elmer Gelder

GELDER, Charles “Happy” Elmer, Age 94, of Dayton, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026. Charles was born on June 1, 1931, son of the late George and Gladys Gelder. He worked for Dayton Power and Light for 15 years and eventually retired from Economy Linen after 41 years there.

Charles enjoyed golf and bowling. He was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, through all the highs and lows. He was also a member of the Teamsters 957, the Eagles 3621 (Milton-Union), and the Milton Athletic Club.

Preceded in death by his parents; first wife Barbara, second wife Bonnie; brother James, and sister Dorothy Carmaine. Charles is survived by his children, Susie Sink (Michael), Rick Gelder, Debbie Gelder, Scott Gelder (Sarah), Jennifer Sloane (Adam); ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

There will be a private graveside service held at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in Happy’s name. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
