Carolyn Sue Safreed
Age 80, formerly of Tipp City, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Versailles Health & Rehab Center under Miami County Hospice Care. Carolyn was born December 2, 1944 in Carmel, Ohio to the late Edward & Thelma (Piersall) Cruea. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and David Cruea.
Carolyn was a graduate of Northridge High School, class of 1962. She was a national motocross and supercross scorer for many years having traveled all over the country. Carolyn also served as a school bus driver for Vandalia-Butler Schools. Following retirement, while living in Florida, she remained very competitive with participating in softball, bowling and mah-jong. She was also very active with the Red Hat Society.
Family was always a priority to Carolyn. Her genuine love and loyalty to family and family activities was apparent, especially when it came to her granddaughters.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of the past 61 years, Joe Safreed; one son, Mark Safreed & his wife, Melissa; two granddaughters, Meghan and Molly Safreed; one great granddaughter, Paisley Beaulieu; and by two brothers, Timmy and Tommy Cruea.
The family will be receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Michael Malcosky officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Carolyn to the Miami County Hospice Unit.
