Carol J. Brown

September 13, 1935 — February 14, 2023

Dayton, Ohio

Carol Jean (Griesheimer) Brown, 87, of Dayton, Ohio passed from this Life at Miami Valley Hospital after a short illness around 3:05pm on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023. She stepped through the Gates of Heaven into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at that time.

Carol was born to Clark and Olive (Booker) Griesheimer on September 13th, 1935. Carol attended school and lived her whole life in Dayton, Ohio. During high school she met Vernon L. Brown and they dated off and on for several years. They were married on November 6th, 1954 in Liberty, IN. They had 5 children, David Lee, Michael Alan, Brenda Sue, Joy Marie and Matthew Edward. They were loving parents who participated in every aspect of their children’s lives.

Carol was a member of Vandalia Baptist Temple in Vandalia, Ohio, and sang soprano in their Choir for many years. During her time there, Carol and Vernon were leaders of a group of retirees known as the ‘Happy Timers’. They enjoyed taking this group on many day and overnight trips. Taking trips, especially to Gatlinburg, TN was one of Carols great passions. On one of those excursions to the Smoky Mountains, they woke up on Saturday morning to over 24” of snow and had a great time being ‘snowed in’ for an additional 3 days.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, her son Matthew Edward ,and her son-in-law Dennis Wiltshire. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son David Brown of Dayton, Ohio; her son Michael (Carol) Brown of Centerville, Ohio; her daughter Brenda (Ken) Caldwell of Panama City, Florida and her daughter Joy Wiltshire of Vandalia, Ohio. Carol cherished every moment she spent with her 8-Grand Children, 16-Great Grand Children and 2-Great Great Grand Children and everyone will miss her dearly.

Carol has spent the last 7 months residing at Stonespring of Vandalia Health Care Facility. She had the privilege of reuniting with a childhood friend Gerie, and she enjoyed many of the weekly activities that were offered to the residents. She made many new friends and was the Happiest she had been in several years. She will be sorely missed by both the staff and friends at Stonespring of Vandalia.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be at 11am on Monday, February 20th at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, located at 139 S. Dixie Dr, Vandalia, Ohio with Pastor Rick Washburn officiating.
