MILLIKIN, Betty Esther (Center), age 96, received her angel’s wings on December 14, 2021. She was born August 3, 1925 in Middletown, Ohio, Greeting her in heaven were her parents Asa Center and Lydia (Tolson) Center, her husband Victor; brothers Orval, Ron, Bill and Ace Center, her beloved sisters, Irene Atkinson, Leola Richards and Mary Ruth Barnt, along with her precious granddaughter, Jennifer (Millikin) Houston, and great-granddaughter, Angel Bost.
Precious memories of Betty will be lovingly held by her children Vicki Lafond, Randy Millikin (Nancy) and Kathy Postell; grandchildren Nicole Bokisa (Michael), Brandy Capoun (Joseph), Aaron Millikin (Myra), Shawn Bost (Eriko), Joseph Bost (Nicole Sumner), Steven Jones (Jennifer); great-grandchildren Michael and Anya Bokisa, Bella and Joseph Capoun, Savannah and Ryan Houston, Dakota and Emma Millikin, Claire, Cale and Charlotte Jones, Samuel, Shelby, Cheyenne, Savannah and Walker Bost and great-great grandchildren: Harmony and Avion McGhee plus a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
After graduation from Madison High School in 1943, Betty supported our country by working for the United Aircraft War Plant until it closed. She moved on to work as a secretary for the Export Manger at Frigidaire until 1950. Once her children were raised, she returned to the workforce and became a valued team member of Sears Roebuck. During her 22 year career at Sears, she experienced many fond memories that she continued to share for many years. Betty retired as the Catalog Supervisor in 1987. She supported the community as a Girl Scout leader, a longtime member of Kappa Phi Beta sorority and the Vandalia United Methodist Church. In addition, Betty and her husband, Victor, founded the Vandalia Lioness Club of which she was a charter and lifetime member and the club’s first President. Lions Clubs International bestowed Betty with the Melvin Jones Fellowship award in recognition of her humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Throughout her lifetime, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a shining example of God’s love. Although she will be sorely missed here on earth, she is now with the loves of her life, Victor and our Heavenly Father.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, December 20, 2021 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. Entombment to follow at Royal Oak Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 11:00 am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Alzheimer’s Association in Betty’s memory.
