Larry Schieltz

SCHIELTZ, Lawrence “Larry”, age 69 of Dayton, formerly of St. Marys Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Mercy Siena Woods of Dayton.  He was born May 31, 1950 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Robert and Ruth (Echemann) Schieltz.  Larry was a man of strong faith with a deep love of God who helped many people throughout his lifetime.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton.  Larry retired from the St. Marys Police Department after 25 years of service.  Following his retirement, Larry enjoyed several jobs. One of his favorite jobs was doing seasonal work with the Amateur Trapshooting Association.  He also had a passion for snow-skiing and was the former director of the ski patrol at Mad River Mountain.  He traveled to various ski destinations across North America.  He also enjoyed boats, water-skiing, and just spending time outdoors.  Larry was  preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and his sister-in-law, Valli. Larry is survived by his sister, Linda & husband, Michael Birgenheir, brothers, Frederick Schieltz and Kenneth & wife, Debra Schieltz; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E. Second St., Dayton, Ohio 45402.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Monday, June 10 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 4000 Denlinger Rd., Trotwood, OH 45426 or to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, Office of Mission Advancement, 431 East Second Street, Dayton, OH 45402-1764 to care for retired Priests and Brothers.
