Joan M Hansard

Joan M. Hansard, 80, of Vandalia passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born September 9, 1937, in Wapakoneta, OH, the youngest of eight children and the last surviving child of Joseph and Marie (Gehrlich) Gerstner.

She married Ray J. Hansard on April 12, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and in-laws: Jane (Cliff) Titus, Roland “Bud” Gerstner, Dorothy (Paul) Pfenning, John (Helen) Gerstner, Norm Gerstner, Alice (Jack) Driscoll, and Robert “Bobby” Gerstner.

She is survived by two children, Cindy Rose and Brad (Camille) Hansard; four grandchildren, Kristina (Erik) Chuprevich, Danielle (Matt) Moore, Cody Hansard, and Britney Hansard; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Joan and Brooklynn Marie Chuprevich; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Jack Boshears; two sisters-in-law, Mary “Kitty” Gerstner and Mary Gerstner; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Joan enjoyed being a hair dresser and an aid to children on the school bus and was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia, OH. She especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan was giving, forgiving and adventurous. Her heart and home were often filled with family members who needed a place to stay, and to feel loved and accepted.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 11, 2018, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Rd., Vandalia with Rev. Fr. John Tonkin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until time of service on Saturday.

Private burial will be held at Royal Oak Cemetery, Brookville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Envelopes will be available at the church.
